Gynaecomastia or Male Boobs is abnormal enlargement of the male breast gland leading to a feminine appearance. Detailed history, review of your medications, hormonal history and preoperative photos help us the chronology of change in the breast size. We may be able to identify the cause, if possible and treat it to avoid recurrence.
This surgery is done under local or general anesthesia. The areas of skin, fat and breast gland excess are marked. Liposuction is performed to remove excess fatty component. If the breast gland is still left behind, a small incision is made around the areola and this is excised to achieve a well contoured chest.
Surgery for Gynaecomastia is done as a daycare procedure and patients can go home the same day with a pressure garment on. This helps the skin to shrink and the swelling to reduce. There will be some bruising of the skin which resolves over 2-3 weeks.
Most patients will be back to work with in 4-5 days. Recovery is quick and results are seen right away especially in severe cases.

If you feel uncomfortable with your chest appearance, have a poor posture due to your breast enlargement and are psychologically distressed by it, then you should consider surgery.
You may feel pain for 2-3 days. For upto a week you may feel chest wall muscle soreness due to the liposuction. There will be some bruising on the skin which will go away in 2-3 weeks. But most importantly, It feels liberating to have that extra weight off your chest and be your true self again.
If you put on a lot of weight, are taking certain medications or have an hormonal issues then there is a risk of recurrence of Breast gland enlargement.
You should wear the garment for 4-6 months to get the best contour by shrinking the skin.
You can exercise and follow a health diet to lose excess fat from your chest wall. This will help reduce the size of your breasts. However if the enlarged size is mainly due to the breast gland then you will need surgical treatment.
